In what will probably be the final conference rivalry game between these two schools, KU upended Mizzou in overtime, 87-86 in Lawrence, KS.
It was a great game nonetheless. Mizzou had a 19 point lead early in the 2nd half, and then the Jayhawks came roaring back. Well, the Jayhawks and referees.
Never before have I seen such blatant bias towards a home team in a basketball game. I know this is common in sports and especially college basketball, but the officiating in the 2nd half was atrocious. Many phantom calls for KU, and non-calls for Mizzou helped Kansas erase the deficit.
Mizzou wasn’t helping with it’s basketball eqivalent of “Prevent Defense” in overdribbling and putting up ill-advised 3’s, but the fact of the matter is that the fouls were bad. At one point, the two Pressey brothers and Ratliffe of MU has 12 total fouls, which was as many as KU had in the entire game.
Anyway, that’s my opinion of the game. Congrats for KU for clawing back to win, and MU for holding on to weather the storm. Some boneheaded plays helped them lose, but the refs were bad. The final foul call during regulation on Dixon as Robinson flopped during his layup attempt was icing on the cake.
This game might put KU in a #1 seed during the NCAA tourney, and who knows what will happen to Mizzou. I’d still put money on Mizzou over Kansas during the tourney regardless of seeding
Edit: Watching the halftime show of Miss St. and Alabama. Dan Gottlied of ESPN even questioned some of the foul calls during the highlight package.
